STRANGE & COZY
An Anthology edited by Thomas Deja and Mark Bousquet
From Atomic Anxiety Press
Miss Marple, Jessica Fletcher, Rosemary & Thyme … Don Cuevo? Cozy detectives work where they live, and solve crimes committed against and by the members of their community. Often seen as nosy busybodies with too much time on their hands, it’s the mystery that finds the cozy detective more than the other way around. The stories of their exploits emphasize solving the mystery rather than suspense and violence.
We seek stories of 7,500 – 10,000 words for a collection of strange and cozy detective stories. We want stories that remain true to the heart of the cozy detective genre, but also expand outward to blend with the supernatural or science fiction genres. Successful proposals and stories will be those that take the quaintness of an Agatha Christie story and transport it to the Wild West or Middle Ages or a space station and beyond. We welcome proposals featuring established characters from other genres placed into a cozy detective setting.
Proposals will be accepted through March 31, 2014. Upon acceptance, completed stories will be expected by July 31, 2014. Total anthology length is expected to be in the 60,000 – 75,000 word range. Print and ebook publication expected by Halloween, 2014. Once production costs have been recouped, royalty shares will be split evenly among all writers, plus one additional full share to be split evenly between the editors.
Please email all proposals to Thomas Deja (firstname.lastname@example.org). Any questions can be directed to Tom or myself (email@example.com). We look forward to your proposal and working with you to create the best possible anthology. Thank you.
